Dencia is catching a lot of flak on social media after she took to her Instagram to post a long note to female fans, advising them on how to avoid rape and assault.
According to the Nigerian-Cameroonian singer, it is difficult to dictate the actions of others, and for this reasons, women should not put themselves in dangerous positions that could lead to sexual assault/rape.
And that was not enough, she told those who cared to listen to mind the kind of outfits they wear, and the kind of situations they put themselves in.
“We can try to blame, shame and normalise things but once you are hurt, the blaming, the shaming, the jail won’t take that back,” she said.

The post has stirred a major backlash against the singer.
While some factions have said she should have used her platform to teach men how to not to rape, others outright called her out for victim-blaming.
“A rapist is a rapist…who will rape u with miniskirt will rape with long skirt,” said an upset Instagrammer, and another added, “So she is justifying women being rapped because men can only control themselves but so much Thats just like saying dont bring little boys to a Catholic church because the “priest” can only fight off the urge but for so long!!!”
And the reactions continue to pour in.

- leauxleaux: “I see her point. However, if she sent out a simple message telling men to not rape women then I feel like that would be more useful. No one ever calls men out until after they have violated a woman. There is so much love in this world so why do we continue to tolerate men raping women who are minding their business.”
- meet_acgisele: “Wtf do u mean “situations that can make u get raped”??? That’s stupid af. Rape can happen whenever wherever. No woman should EVER be made to think she put herself in the position to be raped. Dumb ass! How would u feel if someone breaks into your home and rapes the fuck outa u blc of all them implants u got? (Some weird MFs be wanting to try some surgically enhanced ass) Coz bih… YOU put yourself in that position. Dumb ass!!”
- diamond_vee_: “My point is this there are no precaution to be made….because a rapist is a rapist n has no particular pattern..if he can hv sex with little kids …do u think a grown lady with full grown boobz covered with a long flowing gown is not an exception… mind u not all prostitute are raped n church girls still face rape rapidly….a rapist pointing out ur dressing is just trying to justify his actions when in fact he has a problem he need fixed…”
