South Africa has been thrown into mourning following the news of the death of top actor Dumi Masilela, and the subsequent passing of his aunt.
According to Times Live, the actor, who played the role of Sfiso Ngema on Rhythm City, died on Thursday after he was shot in an attempted hijacking on Wednesday night. Dumi reportedly was visiting a friend in Tembisa that night.
Dumi is said to have parked his car by the roadside when a black Jeep approached them. The actor fled but the Jeep gave them a chase and opened fire on them.
Dumi Masilela died later at a hospital.
But his family was hit with yet another major tragedy; his aunt, on receiving the news, collapsed too and was later declared dead, same Thursday.
Speaking with the press, the family spokesperson Mpumi Phillips said the late aunt was Dumi’s father’s sister who was still mourning the death of her brother last year.
“We can confirm that Dumi’s aunt has died but the family will not elaborate further than this,” the spokesperson said.
