Nigerian-born British actor John Boyega has criticised Game Of Thrones for its lack of diversity in the show.
It’s not the first time the 25-year-old actor has waded in on the diversity controversy as he brought it up during the Screen Nation awards earlier this year where he told actors of colour to “be the change you want to be”, before adding that complaining about the situation “is not going to benefit us”.
In a recent GQ cover story, the Star Wars actor criticised a number of successful franchises for not representing a diverse range of backgrounds.
“There are no black people in Game Of Thrones,” said Boyega, who once stated that he used to get random checks at the airport every time he flew to America.
“You don’t see one black person in Lord Of The Rings. I ain’t paying money to always see one type of person on-screen.
“You see different people from different backgrounds, different cultures, every day. Even if you’re racist, you have to live with that. We can ruffle up some feathers.”
Boyega is currently gearing up to reprise his signature role of Finn in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which recently released a new behind-the-scenes trailer.
And there’s some good news for Star Wars fans, particularly those hoping for romance between Finn and Poe, as Boyega recently detailed how ‘the love is potent’ between the two characters.
