Skales: The Never Say Never Guy

It’s “The Never Say Never Guy” season!
Skales has a very corny album title. For his second project, the singer had the guts and bravery to go with something that sounds like a bad nickname; “The Never Say Never Guy.”
The Baseline Music artist is working on dropping his sophomore project on May 29, 2017, and preparations are already on for the roll-out of the work. All of the usual things are already in place for the launch. An album listening has been held in London, and there is already a lot of people jumping on social media to scream their hearts out and constantly tell Nigerians that Skales is coming through with a bomb.
I do believe Skales is coming through with a bomb. For his sake, and for the sake of all of us who are rooting for him to be successful, we want Skales to not only blow us away with his music but make sure our eardrums are permanently damaged from all of that great music that he has coming through.
But that album title though. It keeps popping up in the minds of many fans because it is corny. There’s no amount of positivity or PR stunting that can convince us otherwise. Skales has a corny album title.
Who on earth names their album “The Never Say Never Guy”? Who creates an album title that sounds like a badly produced Asaba Nollywood movie, which would have Part 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and plenty of ugly spinoffs?
Only Skales. Just Skales. Definitely Skales.
But while we are not fans of the name, we also understand where the inspiration came from.
You see, Skales has suffered in life. From childhood, he was raised by a single mother who could not afford to give him the best in life. She did menial jobs, cleaned his friends houses, and did their laundry. At some point, he had to deny her in front of his peers because he was ashamed of her as a kid.
Na small pikin been dey worry am then.
But as he grew, he hustled and became a star. He was dumped by EME in 2014, which was a very sad period of his life. His girlfriend, who he loved dearly, also dumped him around that time. Skales was alone, with literally no help, and no friend. But he persisted.
On social media, he gets trolled the most. Skales has had to deal with the highest amount of cyber-bullying in Nigeria. Half the time, he ignores it. But sometimes, it gets to him, and he responds by either blocking the culprits or clapping back.

In 2016, he was involved in legal drama, along with his ex-manager, Osagie Osarenkhoe. The duo were arrested by the police, due to a petition by his record label, Baseline Music.
Skales has had his fair share of tribulations. But he is still standing and thriving. When the world throws him lemon, he calls up a bartender and turns it in for some lemon and gin. Every time he has faced adversity, his music has always spoken for him. No matter what, he keeps his art alive.
That’s why he is “The Never Say Never Guy”. That album title embodies his fighting spirit, which has gotten him through his career and to this point. This is his second album, and he intends to use it as a celebration of his defiance and strong will to achieve.
So yes, the title is corny, but it is inspirational. You have to respect that. Bring on “The Never Say Never Guy” album.
Skales “The Never Say Never Guy” album will be out on Monday, May 29, 2016. It will be available on all digital stores including iTunes, Spotify and others worldwide.
